Spirited Away

Has anyone seen Spirited Away?  I have asked all my friends and they all have told me that they haven’t even seen the comercial for it.  I was so surprised because I see the comercial a whole bunch of times.
Then my friend Emily went on to say that she wasn’t going to watch a movie about a sparkly dinosaur!  I told her it was not a dinosaur, that it was a Dragon, but she said she didn’t care because she doesn’t like anime.  What’s wrong with Anime?  Personally I think it rocks.  Another one of my friends kept calling Haku’s dragon form a horse and I kept telling her it wasn’t a horse it was a dragon, but none of my friends seem to care.
None have seen it and some are never going to watch to see if it really is a bad movie, which it isn’t (to me).  I loved the whole thing and I was really upset to find that no one I knew and seen or even heard of it.  I thought that they should have at least seen a comercial, but they haven’t even seen that!!!  I am so upset!!!  I wanted to talk to some one about it I mean I wanted to keep saying “And remember the part when…” but nobody has seen it!
I am so alone in this subject.  I had thought that a good many people had seen it because the theater was so crowded my parents and I had to sit in floor seats. (the ones that don’t go up the stairs)  And we still got a good show.
So I am ranting about this today.  Thankyou for reading my ranting.

  3. I LIVE for anime. That’s why I LOVE Spirited Away. It has a LOT of romance, but that’s okay. The movie is sooooo unexpected that you want to find out what happens next. Some of my friends haven’t seen or heard of it either. But I torture them by saying some sort of a cliffhanger then saying if you want know the rest you have to see the movie. Most of my friends are going to see it after that. But some just like romantic ones like A Walk to Remember. I was dragged to the movies by some of my friends to see that one. There was nothing wrong with the movie, it just wasn’t my cup of tea. But everyone has different tastes in movies. Just like I like adventure and anime while some of my friends like romance and no plot in the movie.  Everyone is different. But they should have at least HEARD of the movie. That’s uncalled for.

  6. I can’t believe your friends! At first, I admit, I didn’t really want to watch it. But when my best friend put it in the DVD player I was amazed by it! It was so cool. The ending sort of sucked though… They should make a sequel, even though I doubt Miyazaki would be up to it…

  7. I Love Spirited Away it’s the best japanese cartoon ever!!!
I really liked how they designed the movie with its cool plot and Haku was my favourite character.
I was upset when chihiro went to the end of the tunnel at the end of the movie and Haku wasn’t there.
It was really sweet how Haku promised Chihiro that they would meet again.
I hope they make spirited away 2.
i admit i like cartoon romance and really hoped that Chihiro and Haku fall in love.

  8. I love the few Anime I’m able to watch on TV, and that’s why I rented Spirited Away. I thought it was a really, really good movie, and I think even someone who doesn’t like Anime would enjoy the movie.

True, it’s got the Anime flare, but it’s still funny and romantic and I believe your friends would like it if they just gave it a try. You should tell them it’s not like a regular Anime they’ve probably seen, but it’s different and you should definitely encourage them to watch it just once!

After all, how will they ever know they don’t like it if they don’t watch it? And if they did see it, at least then they would be able to properly identify the forms of the characters, such as Haku’s dragon form! (I don’t mean to be offensive, but a horse? Is your friend blind, by any chance?)

Spirited Away was a fantastic movie and I really do think your friends don’t know what they’re missing out on. Even if they saw it once and didn’t like it, at least they’ll have *seen* it. Unfortunately, some people don’t know a super, wonderful movie even when they hear about it!

  11. At first, when I saw the commercials and stuff for Spirited Away, I thought, “Oh, it doesn’t look that impressive.” Then, I got it on DVD for my birthday. I watched the Enlgish dub with my friends and I thought it was really awesome. Then I saw the Japanese with English subtitles and I LOVED it! It’s my absolute favorite movie! It’s so stupid of your friends to call Haku’s other form a HORSE. *shakes head* A horse out of all things…That is so stupid.

I absolutely loved the romance between Chihiro and Haku! It’s so much deeper than love in most other movies. I thought the ending was a little depressing though, because Chihiro forgets everything that happened in the Spirit World (the Japanese director said that in an interview) but it did definitely happen…she still has her hairband and the car got all dusty. The ending felt really incomplete and let you wonder what would happen next. It really leaves room for a sequal. Unfortunately, as much as I would love a sequal, I doubt there will be one. Why? Well, Americans like complete answers to things. They like to know what will happen next. But Japanese don’t mind. They like movies with incomplete endings that leave you wondering. (For those of you who have seen Pokemon 3, it had a sort of incomplete ending…you see Molly’s dad with a woman, and they leave you to wonder if he got a new wife or his old wife returned.) It’s just part of Japanese culture.

So now we’re left to wonder what will happen next. Will Chihiro ever remember what happened in the Spirit World? It’s very possible, because Zeniba said that we never forget anything that happens to us but sometimes can’t recall things. Will she ever see Haku again? If so what form will he be in? Would she remember him? Will she return to the Spirit World? We may never know. :(

  12. Anime rocks and so does Spirited Away.  I own it on DVD and I just finished watching it, but during it my older sister turned to me and asked “Do you think they have a FanFiction for this movie?”.  So I went to check it out and they did.  And I feel the same way as you do Courtney because my friends are in the dark about the subject also.  But I root them on to go and see anime, even if it’s not Spirited Away.

  13. How can your friends not see Spirited Away? It is sooooo good. I mean it’s not often that people realize the problems of a 10 year old and a dragon does not look like a sparkly dinosaur.

  14. Spirited Away is such a great movie! Miyazaki rules! ^_^ I think I first saw something about it on the news, but there were never any trailers that I can recall. I decided to buy the DVD and fell in love with the movie (I also loved one of the songs so I ended up buying the soundtrack, which is also great!)

Hmm… maybe they leave incomplete endings for fanfiction? Probably not but people do add to the ending through the magic of fanfiction.

Can Haku and Chihiro really be together, though? I mean I completely love the idea myself, but he’s a water spirit, right? When Chihiro was flashbacking she was being pulled through the river by his dragon form… I’m making myself feel so bad!! Why did I even have to think of that?!

Off subject but: Have you ever seen Princess Mononoke or Castle in the Sky? I have both of those DVDs and they’re also wonderful, in my opinion.

  16. I just saw Spirited Away and I loved it.  As for romance, I thought that there could have been a little more, and i wish the ending had been more fulfilling…

  17. when i asked about Spirited Away, almost of my friends said so(like:“what’s Spirited Away?”, or"I didn’t hear any thing about this” or"not yet”...), and i was so disappointed, only one person say yes, but can you believe? she told me “that anime ‘s so boring and the characters ‘re so stupid…”, it made me shocked.
how crazy she is when saying that, i was so angry and then i came home, turn on the tv, and watch again “Spirited Away”, it’s really made me less tense.
i swear that i’ll give her a dressin down, believe me.

  20. I’m korean so I don’t watch much anime anyway I love them. I was looking for the possible future of Spirited away and came across this. The movie left a watchamacallit feeling. (a feeling I get when I don’t know the end of something I really really really really like) It’s my fave movie ever. I have it and watched it 20 time and actually learned some japanese by listening to japanese and loookoing at the subtitles I could drone about the movie all day (all year;) )but I had to say this A HORSE o_0! The dagon looks cool! Oh well why don’t you invite a friend over to watch with you…..1 at a time.

  23. I love spirited away. And Haku’s dragon form is not a horse! Two of my friends have seen it, one of them, who absolutly despises Anime, watched it and loved it. The two that saw it are Japanese, so I think that they saw it before it came out in English. Anyway, bla bla bla….Shinigami…SIT BOY! and have a nice day! ^.^

  25. OMG Kohaku’s dragon form does NOT look like a dinosaur OR a horse! How can your friend NOT like anime! Anime ROX! They should have a sequal to it because when their falling from the sky (Kaohaku ans Chihiro) their faces get so close you’d swear their gonna kiss but they don’t!

Posted by (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on 02/26 at 06:49 PM
  26. Spirirted Away is the best movie ever!!My fave character is Haku in his dragon form! Omg i watch the movie 4 times in one day !!!! Its funny and the romance between Chihiro(Sen)and Haku is deeper then in most movies. The ending i think should be different. Cause i think Haku and Chihiro should say together.

When i fist watched it i was Put off by Haku’s voice. (jason Marsden) Cause he does Tino off the weekenders but after i watched it a millions times it didn’t matter !!

If you got it on DVD watch it in Japanese and have English subtitles. Some bits are way different and there is more romance between Chihiro and haku.

I am such a fan!! If your a fan to please send me an email about what you though of the film. My addy is (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) If ya got MSN messenger add me !!

    Spirited away rules!!!!!
